These pockets are perfect for a few bulky items that I like to bring on my trips. I highly recommend them!

Sometimes an adventure calls for a little extra space. Our modular Top Side Pockets allow you to carry extra gear (like your cooking pot or rain gear) on the outside of your pack while still being able to accommodate taller items (like trekking poles, an umbrella, or a fishing pole) behind the pockets.

  • Constructed with 3.1 oz/sqyd Dyneema® Composite Fabric on the back, and durable, stretchy pocket mesh on the front.

  • Mesh allows you to easily see the contents, and to dry out wet items.

  • They are a good fit for a 1 Liter or smaller pot, a water filter, hat and gloves, our rain jacket and pants, or an inflatable sleeping pad.

  • Since these are not sewn to the pack you can still stand tall items like trekking poles, an umbrella, or a fishing pole behind the pockets.

  • The pockets can be taken off or added later.

  • All Zpacks gear has a two year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Please see our return / warranty policy.

  • Made in the USA.

Dimensions: ~6" wide x 3" deep x 8" tall

3.1 oz/sqyd Dyneema® Composite Fabric Hybrid

Dyneema® Composite Fabric is composed of high strength Dyneema® fiber laminated inside a polyester membrane. It is inherently waterproof and does not require any coatings or DWR treatment. Dyneema® Composite Fabric has very high tensile strength for its weight and does not stretch.

This hybrid version is made from 1.6 oz/sqyd Dyneema® Composite Fabric on the inside, with an extra layer of protective 50 denier polyester on the outside. The outer layer gives it more strength and abrasion resistance, prevents fraying, and gives it a nice solid color.

Tensile Strength:
 245 lb/in (2150 N/5cm)

Puncture Strength:
7.3 lb (32 N)

Water Resistance:
 >20,000 mmH₂O

Made in the USA.

.3.5 oz/sqyd Mesh

This is the mesh that we use on our backpack's center pockets. It is relatively light weight for mesh, while being difficult to tear. It can withstand getting caught on branches and other typical abrasion that backpacks are subjected to. The hole size is a about 4 mm (a little over 1/8").

 3.5 oz/sqyd (119 g/m²)

Just what the Trail Doctor ordered.....

Well......Although I have an ARC HAUL and love it, I bought a NERO and really love the pack. Then I bought the Titanium Caldera Cone because I had bought the .6L Evernew cookpot. So, with that nice set up I, OF COURSE needed the Top-Side-Pocket for the Nero and BAM........Perfect, just Perfect. So nice to NOT have to open the pack just to make some coffee or rehydrate a quick meal I keep in the Mesh front pocket. GREAT Piece of kit. I bought this one from the BARGAIN section and I looked it over and can NOT see any problem or changed stitch patterns.....Just wonderful this company. GREAT CUSTOMER service and ALL my queries and emails are answered with BLAZING SPEED. Thanks Derrick. PS. Bought the Dyneema stuff sack for the Evernew Cookpot at the same time and I am happier than a Hiker at the Northern Terminus. Trail Name: Heart Failure.

Typical Zpacks

Zpacks gives us the tools and assumes we will use it in the way that suits us. I’ll be carrying totally different items in my Side Pouch in the summer than I did last weekend in the snow and wind. Thanks Zpacks for intelligent thoughtful design.

Top side pocket, backpack accessory

I purchased accessories when I ordered my pack. The side pocket is durable well sewn, and allows me to place items in the side pocket that are accessed along the trail without having to open my back to retrieve them.

Works well on durston pack

I found these and though they would be the perfect place to stash my water filter (on one side) and my gloves and raincoat on the other side. It's really great to get some more outer pockets but also be able to still pack tall stuff like tent poles, an umbrella, or a hatchet on the side of the pack of needed.
