- The Women’s Arc Haul Ultra 40L offers the same design, ultralight performance and rugged durability as our standard version. While the pack is built to fit a wide range of hikers, many women prefer the Small/Women’s shoulder straps, which offer a narrower, more contoured fit for enhanced comfort and support where it matters most.
- Made from 3.3 oz/sqyd Ultra 100X fabric, a woven blend of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) that’s stronger than steel and almost lighter than air. It resists abrasions, tears, and rough trails like a pro.
- Ultra fabric is naturally waterproof and free from PFAS, DWR, and harsh coatings—so you can breathe easy knowing your gear is eco-conscious and safe.
- All seams and attachment points are taped making the pack highly water resistant. Add dry bags or a pack liner for peace of mind when the skies open up.
- Our women-friendly Arc Frame curves naturally away from your back, leaving a cooling air gap. It prevents that sweaty pack feel and keeps your gear from digging in. Plus, it transfers weight to your hips helping your hike feel effortless.
- With 40L of volume, it’s ideal for 3-4 day adventures with ultralight gear. Lash on extras with the included top strap and base straps on longer carries. Roll down the top and cinch down the sides to compress the volume on short trips. Shorter hikers may prefer a larger volume pack with the top rolled down so that it doesn't stick up so high above their shoulders.
- Side compression cords let you cinch things down or carry extra essentials like trekking poles or an umbrella standing in the side pockets.
- Choose your ideal strap style—each one padded with comfy 3/8" closed-cell foam and breathable 3D mesh underneath to soften the load. An adjustable sternum strap and daisy chains let you tailor the fit and clip on must-haves.
- Our interchangeable padded hip belt features V-style webbing that hugs the contours of your body—more secure, and more comfortable than traditional belts. It’s built to move with you, not against you.
- Each side pocket holds up to two 1L bottles and is angled for easy reach. No need to take off your pack to stay hydrated. The pockets have drainage holes and snug elastic at the top.
- Store wet gear, or quick access items in the large stretchy mesh center pocket. Let wet gear dry while you move forward.
- A drinking tube can be threaded out the corner of the roll top closure and just secured using the daisy chain on your strap.
- All standard Bear Canisters will fit in the upper half of this pack standing on end. Use your sit pad and clothing as padding around the canister to fill out the space.
- The short and medium frames fit in most airplane overhead bins.
- The shoulder straps can be adjusted up or down for a perfect fit using our patented torso adjustment mechanism. It works like a conveyor belt. This is great for sharing the pack between people, or for growing teenagers.
- Our torso height adjustment mechanism is is covered by US Patent No. 9,848,687. Our Flexed Arc Frame is covered by US Patent No. 9,060,590.
- All Zpacks gear has a two year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Please see our return / warranty policy.
- Designed and assembled in the USA from domestic and imported components.
Load Capacity:
30-35 lbs (14-16 kg) comfortably, 40 lbs (18 kg) max.
Body dimensions:
5" x 12.5" x 29" (12.75 cm x 31.8 cm x 74 cm)
Volume:
40L (27L main body, 2.5L each side pocket, 8L center pocket)
Frame Height:
Short 17" (43 cm) | Medium 20" (51 cm) | Tall 23" (58 cm)
Torso Height:
To measure your torso height, you will need the help of a friend and a string or cloth tape measure.
The position you like your belt to sit makes a huge difference. Some people put their belt below their pelvic crest on their hips, others wear it on their pelvic crest, or above it depending on their body shape.
To ensure you lock in the perfect fit, we suggest putting a belt on over your clothes in the spot where you’d like it to ride. Start your measurement at the center of the belt where it meets your spine.
Lower your chin towards your chest. This will cause the C7 vertebrae to protrude at the base of your neck. The C7 vertebrae will mark the top of your torso height measurement.
Using the string or cloth tape measure, follow the curve of your spine up from the center of your belt to your C7 vertebrae. This measurement is your torso height.
Most adults fit our medium adjustment range. If in doubt try a medium. Make sure to load up the pack when trying it on. Exchanges are ok.
Belt Size:
The padded portion of the belt is 1" shorter than the listed minimum adjustment. For example a "Medium (30-35 inches)" belt has padding which measures about 29" tip to tip, and has a minimum adjustment circumference of 30". It is the recommended size if your actual measurement is up to 35". The webbing extends further for adjustment.
To measure your belt size, pull a string or cloth tape measure tight around the spot you’d like your belt to ride. Choose a belt with a minimum adjustment of a couple inches smaller than your actual waist measurement. This will leave room for you to tighten down the belt if you lose a little weight on trail.
The belts on our Arc backpacks are removable and interchangeable. This gives you the ability to switch the belt out if your waist size changes or if you order the incorrect size by mistake.

Stick-On Key Zip Pouch
This thing was easy to attach and very lightweight. It will help me not lose track of IDs and cash in the bottom of my pack!
– Karen J., ★★★★★
Make sure you don’t lose your most important items. Attach this stick-on key zip pouch to the inside of your backpack, and your keys, wallet, passport, smartphone or other valuables will still be where you left them at the end of your hike. When you get to town the pouch detaches and fits in your pocket.
Just peel off the brown paper backing from the included flat clips and attach the pouch inside your backpack where you want it. We usually stick it towards the top of the backpack right behind the shoulder straps so that it is easy to get to. The adhesive bonds well and will also work on any urethane coated backpack material. Spare Stick on Flat Clips are available if you want to clip this pouch to a second location.
Medium Dry Bag
Very lightweight and compact. Roll top allows for flexible stowing options. All specs exactly as stated.
– Patrick M., ★★★★★
Trek through damp forests with confidence and dry gear. This is a good size for multiple clothing items, a tent, or a down quilt. This size fits well horizontally in most smaller backpacks.
Need a different size? Check out the rest of our Dry Bag collection.
Wide Mouth Dry Bag
Engineered for gram-weenies and mileage junkies—the Wide Mouth Dry Bag is a convenient way to pack and compress your tent or clothes. The adjustable size can fit anything from a one to a three person tent with accessories, or a varying assortment of clothing while always maintaining a 12" (30.5 cm) width that fits horizontally in small backpacks. Just squish the contents and roll down the top to compress your items to a minimum packed size.
The wide opening makes it easier to see and find small gear items, while larger items are faster to pack compared to a typical stuff sack or side-opening dry bag.
A color band of your choice is included to help you easily differentiate between bags. Need some other sizes? Check out the rest of our Dry Bag collection.
Top Side Pocket
These pockets are perfect for a few bulky items that I like to bring on my trips. I highly recommend them!
– Michael H., ★★★★★
Sometimes an adventure calls for a little extra space. Made from Ultra material, our modular Top Side Pockets allow you to carry extra gear (like your cooking pot or rain gear) on the outside of your pack while still being able to accommodate taller items (like trekking poles, an umbrella, or a fishing pole) behind the pockets.
Ice Axe Loops (Both Sides of Pack)
The loops fit my pack perfect and my ice axe perfect. What can I say...they’re perfect!
– Jerry C., ★★★★★
When your adventure calls for traveling along snowy ridgelines or climbing icy peaks, the ice axe loops are the perfect addition to your backpack. A pair of loops are attached at each side of the pack for securing two ice axes. The head of each axe secures through a loop at the bottom, and the handle is kept tight at the top with a shock cord band. The loops can all come off when you aren't carrying axes.
