Zpacks Lotus UL Umbrella
42 reviewsIt was great at blocking the sun and flexible in the wind. I used it for hours in a rain storm yesterday and it was so light I barely noticed I was holding it that long. I plan to bring this umbrella everywhere.

These things are life savers!
We did a 13 mile hike with a 95 degree heat index and these sunbrellas made a huge difference. Bring your own shade!

hiking the Grand Canyon
the umbrella was wonderful! I’ll always hike with it now. The canyon was 111F at the bottom. I wouldn’t do it again in July, but the umbrella was great

So glad I packed the umbrella
I was in the White Mountains just inside the tree line “the long green tunnel “day four of a 75 mile section hike. It was on me before I knew it no time for a jacket or rain pants. Downpour. Umbrella. I knew the Whites were windy and maybe not umbrella friendly. So glad I packed the umbrella.

Thought it was silly until I used it
As a backpacker I’d always considered an umbrella to be extra unnecessary weight because my hat and sun shirt, or my rain jacket with hood work just fine for sun and rain. However, I recently purchased the Lotus UL umbrella because I needed a way to get my dogs out of the sun on lengthy stretches of exposed ridgeline. I figured I’d prop it up against my pack for breaks and let them lay under it out of the sun. It works great for that purpose and it definitely lowers the air temperature beneath it, which is fantastic for my dogs. A++ What I didn’t anticipate is that I’d actually use it on my pack for myself while hiking. I just always assumed it would be in my way, or wouldn’t stay in place, and what a strange thing to use while hiking, right? Well, I'm a convert now. Turns out this is a piece of gear I never knew I needed until I got it (for the dogs) and used it myself. The thing stays put on my pack strap without wobbling around or tipping to one side as I move. I find that it’s not in my way at all. I love it. Also, when it first arrived I couldn’t believe how light it feels. I mean 6.8oz isn’t a lot, but it really doesn’t even feel like 6.8oz. It feels amazingly lightweight. I now recommend this piece of gear with great enthusiasm and have already convinced one backpacking friend to buy it. She loves it, too. Highly recommend, even if you’re skeptical.

Great purchase
This was a gift for my hiking hubby. He LOVES it!! Great purchase, great company!
