LOVED the poncho on my 500 mile section of the PCT this year... it's one of my top 5 favorite pieces of gear!!! I used it in a downpour at the northern terminus as I completed 7 years of section hiking the PCT.

  • Fitted Hood with visor keeps water off your face.

  • Waterproof zipper at the neck for venting.

  • Half length separating zippers at each side ensures the sides can't blow open in the wind.

  • Elastic belt at the waist allows you to snug the poncho around you for warmth when needed, or leave it loose for air flow.

How is this not mainstream?!?

I used this Poncho during my 2021 Sobo CDT thru hike attempt for 1,650 miles and I love it! Lots of cold rainy days that other very popular rain jackets would have wet out on or made puddles of sweat ( Ive owned frog togs and OR Helium before). The thickness of the dyneema made me confident to put under my silpoly tent and I never got a hole. A pack cover, rain jacket and ground sheet in one product thats lighter than any other one product gets an A+. Seriously! How is this not in everyones gear list?

Zpacak umbrella

Lotus UL Umbrella by Zpacks × 1 GGG10 (-$4.49) Hello Zpacks, We walked on Pilgrimage 150 miles from Winchester to Canterbury, UK in September 2022. The poncho was terrific. The umbrella handle, however, pulled off on just the second day of use. It was good in every other respect, but very disappointing and inferior to my hiking group's Hyperlite umbrellas. I am forced to Gorilla glue it back together. FAV

great options

I really like this poncho. I've since upgraded to a waterproof pack, and I don't need the pack cover portion as much. I played with different configurations, and if you're skinny, you can basically wrap the back flap around your front (and partially zip), and vice versa for the front flap. This results in essentially a rain robe / poncho cross that goes quite low, past my knees and I'm over 6'. Your mileage may vary!

best poncho design

I have not used the poncho for an extended backpacking trip yet but, have done a couple of test walks with backpack and feel like this will be an awesome addition to my raingear. I have used several other ponchos that are OK so long no wind is blowing and then they are disaster(a giant 'kite'). I think Zpacks have designed a poncho that will work well as pack cover, rain cover and usable in windy conditions. The zippered sides and elastic waist belt should keep this poncho in place in the windiest conditions. I look forward to many years of rain protection.

poncho

great water protection, does not soak up water and get heavy. Hike up Hamilton Mountain, Columbia River Gorge, rain bottom and snow at top, continuous, stayed dry and warm. Only issue was with the wind, be careful as it can knock you over when caught by poncho.
