Our Airplane Travel Case is a useful addition for the jetsetting adventurer looking to blaze international trails. Slide your backpack inside to protect it when checking your backpack on to a plane. When you arrive, move the airplane case to the inside of your backpack and it doubles as a pack liner.
The Airplane Case adds protection when checking your backpack on to a plane. It has a sturdy webbing handle on the side for carrying your pack to the terminal. The handle is long so that you can keep your hand centered depending on height of the backpack.
The top of the case has a standard roll top opening, and it also has 2 small loops so that you can clip the top with a TSA approved lock, or with a carabiner for a little extra security.
This case also doubles as a pack liner! Just move it from the outside of your backpack to the inside once you reach your destination. It has the same construction as our standard pack liner, except it is made from thicker Dyneema® Composite Fabric for extra durability. The seams are taped.
The dimensions are a little bit larger than our standard pack liner so that it will fit the exterior of our backpacks. You will likely need to remove any water bottles or gear from the exterior backpack pockets; move those items to the inside of the pack. It will fit all of our backpacks and other similarly sized packs.
Tip: Your backpack will slide into the case easier if you put it in upside down.
All Zpacks gear has a two year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Please see our return / warranty policy.

1.6 oz/sqyd Dyneema® Composite Fabric
Dyneema® Composite Fabric is composed of high strength Dyneema® fiber laminated inside a polyester membrane. It is inherently waterproof and does not require any coatings or DWR treatment. Dyneema® Composite Fabric has very high tensile strength for its weight and does not stretch. 1.6 oz/sqyd DCF has a thicker membrane and a higher Dyneema® fiber count. This fabric weight has excellent abrasion and puncture resistance. We use this weight for products that need a little extra durability, like our Bear Bag Kit.
Tensile Strength: 210 lb/in (1840 N/5cm)
Puncture Strength: 5.2 lb (23 N)
Water Resistance: >20,000 mmH₂O

I like this Airplane Case as it protects my very light and lovely Arc Haul. It was a big deal to get the Arc Haul and I need it to last a long time, so getting the Airplane Case made a lot of sense. It fits in fin; I just keep the backpack on the ground put the Airplane Case on over the top and invert the backpack.
Suggested improvements - make it slightly bigger. A 40L pack fully stuffed is tough to fit inside. Make it of slightly more durable/thicker Dyneema. It was punctured after the very first flight I used it for. The handle can be tough on a hand (make it slightly wider to distribute pressure across greater surface area)
I didn't travel with it yet. Now I use it to store all my stuff and it petty handy and easy to locate my stuff because you can see what in it. It keep my gear free of dust and ready to travel in case I need to grab and go.
This airplane case is a nice strong bag that keeps your pack straps from getting hung up in the baggage conveyor belts and equipment at the airport. Being ultra light, it also serves a second purpose of being a large dry bag liner for your pack. It has a strong and balanced side handle and roll-top closure, but I would not roll it too tight since it needs to leak air for pressure differences while flying.
Just used on a trip to Columbia. It was a pleasure, I was able to load up my backpack and at the end of my packing to add additional items into the bag. The bag was STRONG, easy to spot on the airport baggage car carousel. As a matter of fact, the luggage handlers were extra careful with my bag and put it into a special basket. Only issue was that everyone picked up the bag by the closure side instead of the handle.
