Tyvek "Home Wrap" is an ideal material for ground sheets. It is waterproof, and very abrasion and puncture resistant. Tyvek is stiff, and foldable like thick paper. It will not bunch up or slide around under you like other fabrics.
Fold up the edges and tape the corners to make yourself a bathtub floor for your tarp. Cut it to size using regular scissors to make a tent footprint. It does not fray and you do not need to hem or tape the edges.
This material is white on one side, with a blue and red Tyvek logo printed on the other side.
Size: 5 feet by 9 feet (1.52 x 2.74 meters)
Groundsheet weight: 9.2 ounces (262 grams)
Material Weight: 1.85 oz. per square yard (62.7 grams per square meter)
Awesome as always
The Tyvek groundsheet arrived and actually is large enough to make into two groundsheets for my twin hammock setup for my wife and I. Low tech solution but a great and inexpensive option for a groundsheet under a tent (Don’t need one for my Duplex!) but under my hammocks, it is perfect.
I set up on *** gravel a lot tyvek is a comfort for my zpack duplex
Just Get It
I provided an initial review where I said I was very happy with the groundsheet but I failed to put in any stars and the review showed one star even though I meant to give it 5 stars and my comments reflected a 5 star review. This is a do over. I bought the Tyvek groundsheet with my Triplex tent to take advantage of free shipping and low price. You need to wash the tyvek with a couple of large towels a couple of times to quiet it down and then it gets much softer and quieter. I used it immediately on a three day hiking trip in early November 2019. It was extremely cold and windy. I used the tyvek to lay on the ground so I could unload my Arc Hauler 62 pack without getting my gear wet and dirty. Then, instead of using it as a ground sheet, my buddy and I used it inside the tent over top of us to try and keep our water bottles from freezing. It worked. This is an effective and inexpensive groundsheet and it's indestructible. You can spend a lot more to get the dyneema groundsheet and save 8 ounces. I didn't but maybe one day I will. I bought the groundsheet for my Triplex even thought Zpacks says you don't need it. I love my tent, it's expensive and I want to protect it. The weight wasn't that much a factor and it was handy to throw down when unloading gear on the ground from my pack so it did double duty. In fact because the campsite we picked was so clean and clear of sharps we put the groundsheet over top of us inside the tent for extra cold protection and to keep our water bottles from freezing in the cold. You need to run it through the washing machine with a couple of large towels two or three times to quiet it down. Then it rolls up small. If you're already buying the tent the groundsheet ships for free and it's cheap enough that I recommend just getting it with your purchase. You can buy one later on eBay for the same price but you'll wind up paying shipping. It's a multi use item and I recommend it unless you're down to packing your gear by gram count. Groundsheet needs to be broken in, so haven't used it. My first experience with this product. My suggestion is for zpack to provide instructions to break in product when shipped before using.
