These things are sweet. Light as a feather, and stiff as a board. I love the additional grip down low under the handles. Adds way more versatility on steeper grades.

locking mechanism sucks

Bought these for use on CT. Both poles stopped locking after less than 300 miles. I can't find anything about Zpack's locking mechanism online to make a repair. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Good with an asterisk

Good poles, quite light and functional. The grips have some misalignment in the cork to plastic connection that give a frequent hotspot and discomfort. The baskets have c notches, I assumed were to connect the poles together for storage, but they aren’t big enough to accommodate the other pole or other tip. Check the tightness of the baskets often, they loosen up and will fall off if not careful. Have already lost one. All in all pretty good poles, just not great.

These poles survived the Grand Enchantment Trail!

I have a less than stellar track record with carbon fiber hiking poles; I shattered one on Te Araroa in a rocky river bottom, and another on the Benton MacKaye Trail on a forest road studded with baby-heads. This was my first pair of zpacks trekking poles and I am blown away that they survived to hike another hike after traversing the rugged distance between Phoenix and Albuquerque on the GET. I wasn't kind to them, I didn't baby them in the least; they held their own in pumice filled washes, in stony canyon bottoms, across myriad fords of creeks and rivers, through burn scars filled with blowdowns and tangled debris, steep climbs and careening descents and so many miles off trail. These poles also happen to be more affordable than others on the market, an added bonus!
