Goose Down Hood

Couldn’t be happier with this down hood. Perfect for quilt users, doesn’t slide around or off your head at night like a beanie can on straight, slick hair. Much better than the hood on a sleeping bag, which can slide into your face when you turn, and of course can’t be detached for use as a separate warm hood. The ultra light weight is remarkable. It’s very warm and has a cozy fit and feel.

    .59 oz/sqyd Ventum Ripstop Nylon

This super light, high quality, 7 denier fabric showcases a ciré finish on both sides and weighs in at just .59 oz/sqyd (20 g/m²).  Featuring a high quality "C0" durable water repellent (DWR), this ripstop and tear resistant material can also handle a light mist (but is not waterproof).

Ventum nylon cuts the wind while still allowing for excellent vapor transfer the makes the fabric highly breathable.  With a soft texture, Ventum is not sticky or plasticky like some other fabrics in this weight range.

As the material is down and mosquito proof, it is an excellent choice for wind shell clothing and sleeping bag shells.

    900 Fill Power Down

This ethically sourced premium down is great for providing warmth in sleeping bags, hoods and socks.

    Storage

Store loose (hanging in a closet for example) when not in use.

    Washing

Goose Hoods do not need to be washed very often. Wash once after a long season or only as needed.

Be careful of machine washing down Goose Hoods. The twisting motion of a washing machine could potentially tear the shell or the internal baffles. If you do try a washing machine do so at your own risk using the delicate setting.

We recommend hand washing your Goose Hood in a sink or bathtub with warm water and Granger's Down wash. Swish the hood around for a few minutes and rinse.

Squish the hood and squeeze as much water as you can out of it.

For best results, lay the hood out in the sun to dry. You may have to periodically pull apart any wet down clumps to allow them to dry completely and fluff back up like new.

High heat from a clothes dryer can melt delicate shell materials. We recommend drying your down gear items in the sun, or line drying indoors if the weather doesn't permit sun drying.

    Ridiculously warm!

Used this on a recent high Sierra trek. Nights in the 30s with 40-50 mph gusts. Put this baby on and my entire body felt warmer, not to mention my noggin’ was toasty. Crazy for how light and easy to pack this is. Helps also when using a quilt where your head is more exposed.

    Another Winner

While I haven't done much in terms of Backpacking lately I still for cold desert nights wanted a beanie that also covered my neck and this fit the bill. Zpacks has and continues to be my primary go-to for these types of items.

    Goose Hoody

I used this in the Sierras during the early fall so it was a bit warmer than necessary, but next season it will get tested in early summer. I’m confident it will make all the difference in the world for cooler temps. It’s the streamlining of taking only what you need that is key here.
