Wool's natural ability to control moisture and odor help to keep you comfortable every step of the trail.
  • A super comfortable base layer for outdoor adventures.

  • Our ultralight 3.83 oz/sqyd Trail Cool Merino Wool fabric is very breathable, but still thick enough to provide miles of durability on or off trail.

  • The material is stretchy, allowing it to comfortably conform to your body's movements.

  • Raglan sleeves provide excellent range of motion while eliminating a top shoulder seam that could rub against your backpack straps.

  • Sizes are US Men's, however the athletic fit and stretchy material work well for women's figures as well.

  • Made with a 95% Merino Wool Blend, the shirt is soft and smooth against the skin with no itchiness or transparency.

  • Wool stays warm when wet and also helps with temperature regulation in warm weather.
  • Merino is unique in that it absorbs odors and reduces unpleasant smells.
  • This garment is intentionally cut long. Expect wool to shrink a couple inches in length if washed and dried with regular laundry. Line dry to preserve the initial sizing if desired.
  • All Zpacks gear has a two year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Please see our return / warranty policy.

  • Imported.

Different to usual merino

This has an odd texture. Not unpleasant but more starchy and structured than most merino. Also a v boxy shape.

Love it!

This shirt is comfortable, I forget it’s wool. Of the wool shirts I have this one seems more durable, the others I have used get wear spots from rubbing on packs, this shirt has not done that. The sizes run a little snug if you like loose fitting clothes.

Camino Tested and Approved!

I hiked the French Way of the Camino last year with days on either end in Portugal and Germany in just over 7 weeks. I did the whole trip with two of these shirts. Washing the one I wore at the end of the day and wearing the other the next day. Despite weeks of wearing a backpack for 15 miles a day and sweating like crazy these shirts held up like champs! Zero pilling, tears, or any other flaw. They are well made, super soft and comfortable, and the sizing was perfect for me (5'10" 165lbs -> large). They were still looking nearly new by the end of the trip! I did mostly sink washing, but did have a couple of days I used a washing machine. After washing I'd roll them in a towel and walk on the towel to squeeze out as much water as I could. Then hang it on a line or over a chair etc. Dry the next morning almost without fail. Even if it was still a little damp, I'd put it on, and it would be dry in an hour. Absolutely zero issues with hand wringing or machine wash. I did use a drier a couple of times without issue, but I can't say what happens if you use one routinely. Days were in the upper 80s/low 90s and a few days of rain along the way. I was worried wool would be too hot but quite the opposite. I was always cool and comfortable. Sweat wicked and evaporated quickly. Except perhaps through the Pyrenees where it was really humid. If I got a little wet from rain, these would dry out pretty quickly while I wore them. They also layered well on cooler mornings, without sticking too badly to top layers. No problems with sweat stains or anything permanent. Though there were a couple of days after sweating a bunch and drying off I'd end up with white salt stains. Harder to see on the grey shirt - the blue was pretty obvious. They washed right out. To cap it off - if you compare merino shirt pricing elsewhere Zpacks has a really fair price here. These will be my go-to backpacking shirts for all time now. My only wish is for more colors!

Comfortable, stains too easily

I bought this shirt because I wanted something different from a wicking nylon shirt. It fits nicely is very comfortable -- not bad looking either. On hikes in warm, humid conditions it soaks with sweat quickly and is heavier that wicking nylon shirts as Brian L mentions in his review. My problem with the shirt is the sweat stains, making it unusable for everyday wear. If not for the stains, I would really love this shirt.
