When the campfire just isn’t enough to keep you warm and your feet need a little extra help heating up, the PossumDown socks are an ultralight must have. Made from a combination of New Zealand's brushtail possum fur, and New Zealand Merino lamb's wool, these socks are sure to keep your toes nice and toasty.
These socks are very thick and warm! They are rugged enough to hike in on cold days, and they also make excellent sleep socks. They are great for winter sports as well.
For extra warmth pair these socks with our PossumDown Gloves!
*PossumDown Socks are non-returnable if they have been removed from the packaging.
PossumDown is produced by combining the fur of New Zealand's brushtail possum and New Zealand Merino lamb's wool.
The hair of brushtail possum is hollow, just like Polar Bear hair, which provides incredible warmth and water resistant. While typical wool gloves may stay warm when wet, they take forever to dry. If you get these socks wet, the water shakes right out and they dry quickly.
New Zealand's possums are unrelated to the opossums found in the United States. They are super cute, but they are also an invasive species that destroy the native plant and bird life. More details can be found at PossumDown.co.nz
Made in New Zealand.
PossumDown can be hand washed in a bathtub with warm water and soap or in a traditional washing machine.
The socks can be air dried, or tumble dried. They may shrink a little in a dryer, but they stretch back out without issue.
- foot box
I have used them already, they were wonderful. Overnight low was 35f, conventional bag with foot box, quilted with my dog under the covers and I was toasty. Already had the gloves and love them, I do wear the gloves while sleeping. These replaced very heavy smart wool socks. These are lighter, warmer, and pack smaller. I haven’t gotten them wet yet, but if they’re like the gloves they’ll do fine. A+ zpacks as usual.
The only hiking (or anyday) socks my husband will wear!
So good at keeping his feet warm and he loves the comfort of them (as long as they don’t accidentally go in the dryer, shrinkage is a *****). Great product.
Still got one of the early iterations of your backpacks and which is still going strong I’ve also got some others, too. Legs and feet are getting frazzled but the new backpacks are great and the older ones still carry books, lunches, dirty clothes and whatever.
I bought a pair about a year ago and was so impressed I bought two more pair. They are lightweight, soft, and not itchy. They also seem not to get too smelly even after multiple days on the trail. I have worn them in summer and have not noticed too much over heating and worn them in the winter without getting could. I do use a liner and have yet to get blisters. I also like the fact that they are made from an invasive species. Perhaps this is all psychosomatic therapy, but I am sold on their efficacy.
Possum Down Luxury
These socks are the warmest and lightest sleeping socks I’ve ever worn. They add a sense of luxury to my feet after a hard day on the trail. Worth every penny!
