Hexamid Twin Tent Setup
Cutting Guy Lines:
36 feet
(~11 meters) of spectra cord is included. Cut Guy lines to the following
lengths, singe each end w/ a lighter, and tie a 2 inch (5 cm) loop at both ends.
The guy lines can be looped on to the tent tie outs.
Front
center (1x) – 6 feet (183 cm)
Front and
back corners (4x) – 32 inches (81 cm)
Back center
and side walls (3x) – 5 feet (152 cm)
You may also want to cut four 7 inch (18 cm) pieces and tie them to the zipper
pulls.
Setup Instructions:
- Adjust your trekking poles to
about 48 to 49 inches (~123 cm) for the front, and about 32 to 33 inches
(81 cm) for the back.
- Stake out one of the tent’s
front corner guy lines.
- Pull the other front corner guy
line tight, then give it about 10 inches (25 cm) of slack and stake it
out.
- Insert the front trekking pole
at an angle. The handle will be at the peak of the tent, the tip will be
inside the tent on the square of material directly below the beak.
- Stake out the main guy line.
The front corners of the tent should be about 6 inches (15 cm) off the
ground. The bottom of the trekking pole should be directly under the beak.
- Insert the tip of the second
trekking pole into the Dyneema cone shaped thing
at the back center of the tent. Put the triangular pocket over the top of
the trekking pole, and stake out the guy line.
- Stake out the two back corner
guy lines. The tent should be about 6 inches (15 cm) off the ground all
the way around.
- Stake out the side guy lines.
If you are hiking with a partner the side guy lines can be propped up with
a second set of trekking poles for extra head room.
If you are
using a tent pole instead of a trekking pole be careful- the pole can puncture
the fabric if it slides out of the reinforced area at the peak of the tent. You
may want to tape on foam to give it more surface area like a trekking pole
handle.
If you have
trouble getting a good pitch try playing around with
the following:
- The distance apart of the two
front corner stakes when you first lay out the tent.
- The length and angle of the
main trekking pole.
Seam Sealing:
A free tube of Sil Net seam sealer is included. The easiest method is to
set the tent up outdoors and apply the sealer to the smooth side of the seams
and tie outs on the outside of the tent.
Optional Hexamid
Doorway Instructions:
- The optional doorway can be
clipped to the elastic loops that should be attached at the peak and front
two corners of your tent or tarp.
- The door should be on the
outside of your trekking pole, and it should be fairly snug in place.
- The elastic with the cord lock
at the bottom of the door can be wrapped around the bottom of your
trekking pole and cinched tight.
- The doorway should overlap the
floor at the bottom. If it is windy the door can be weighed down with your
gear.
- To get in or out unclip the top
clip and the door drops to the ground.
