Length:
We have found that a hoodless sleeping bag works best if you can pull it up around your ears on cold nights or bundle it up around your neck to seal out drafts. You'll want to sleep in a warm hat, your jacket hood, and/or a Goose Down Hood in extreme cold.

The length of our sleeping bags is the same as always (medium is still medium and so on), but now our sizing chart indicates which length will come to the ears of the wearer, rather than to the neck. The listed length of the bag should cover the ears of a person that height. The length factors in space for your feet, length to come around your body girth, and around the shoulders.

Materials:
Constructed of the lightest materials available -
  • Outer Shell Material: .70 oz/sqyd (23.7 g/m2) Ventum Ripstop Nylon w/ DWR

  • Inner Liner Material: .70 oz/sqyd (23.7 g/m2) Ventum Ripstop Nylon w/ DWR

  • Baffle Material: .34 oz/sqyd Cuben Fiber

  • Fill Material: 900 Fill Power Premium Goose Down
Features:

  • The quilt secures at the neck creating two individual neck holes to keep out drafts. Each person can cinch their own neck elastic individually or pull it up around their head. Either person can open their side for venting, or leave the whole top open like a blanket.

This bag does not have a hood- wear warm hats, or goose down hoods instead!

  • A strap across the bottom ensures the sides stay tucked. Most of the time the strap won't be necessary- treat the quilt as a large blanket just like at home.

  • Tip- Inflatable sleeping pads sometimes have the habit of sliding apart during the night. Clip your pads together.

  • Tightly spaced continuous baffles every 5 inches help keep the down evenly distributed. For the most warmth fluff up the down each night by shaking the bag before use. There are no "sewn through" cold spots, including in the foot area.

  • Each baffle is overstuffed with 30% more 900 Fill Power Premium Goose Down than is necessary for maximum loft to account for any future down compression. Down bags can last for decades with care!

  • Store loose (hanging in a closet for example) when not in use. Each bag has a hang loop at the foot. Alternatively it can be stored loose in a laundry bag.

  • Black ripstop on the inside for quick drying. Both the liner and the shell are treated with durable water repellant to resist rain spray and body moisture.

  • A "Large Rectangle" size Cuben Fiber Roll Top Bag is included, and adds about 1.2 ounces (34 grams) to the listed weight. The stuffed size is about 11" x 5.5" x 12.5"   (28 cm x 14 cm x 32 cm)- it fits well in the bottom of most backpacks.

  • All Zpacks gear has a one year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Returns or exchanges are welcome.

Washing Instructions:

Hand wash with warm water in a bathtub or bucket. Do not use soap unless it is made specifically for down. Normal soap can strip down of its natural oils. Typically warm water alone is sufficient. Do not machine wash- the twisting motion of a washing machine may cause tears. It is best to lay the bag out in the sun to dry it. You will need to periodically pull apart the wet down clumps until it is completely dry and fluffed back to normal. Beware of dryers, high heat can shrink the internal Cuben Fiber baffle walls. Even the 'low heat' setting is dangerous if you are using an unfamiliar machine such as at a laundromat. Tip - remove the sleeping bag from the dry bag while it is underwater to keep it from filling up with air.

Store loose (hanging) when not in use!

Slate Blue 10F Long Length:
The slate blue color is not as bright as it appears. It is a more subdued blue-gray.

Down Overfill:

The amount of down in each sleeping bag is explained Here. The sleeping bags are overfilled 30% based on the calculated amount of 900 fill power down required to fill the volume.

We are no longer doing in between temperature ratings or bag lengths as it makes construction and exchanges difficult. If you sleep cold at night consider going down to the next lowest temperature rating. Exchanges are welcome on any of the standard sizes and temperature ratings!

Joe and Sheryl's Twin Quilt Review:

We used a home-made twin size quilt on our Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail thru-hikes in 2007 and 2009 respectively. The big problem with many quilts (solo or shared) is they are not wide enough and they come un-tucked allowing a draft. We really liked the versatility and super low weight of our shared quilt, but we had to be careful to keep the sides on our home-made quilt from coming un-tucked.

In 2012-2013 we thru-hiked the Te Araroa Trail in New Zealand. It was about 1,900 miles (3,054K) and it took us 120 days to complete. We used the present version of the Zpacks Twin quilt (Gear list)

We couldn't have been happier. The new design has plenty of width to securely wrap the quilt around us, and we never had any issues with the sides coming un-tucked. I am 5' 9" tall, but we chose to use the Long length quilt so that we could wrap the quilt around our heads when the temperature dropped. We had warm hats, and hoods on our jackets, but most nights just getting my head partially under the quilt was fine. Sizing up to the long length was a good call.

New Zealand was the warmest of our thru-hikes. We carried a 20F quilt just to play it safe, but the temperature never went below freezing during the four months that we were there. Most nights the 20F quilt was overkill, and too hot, but this wasn't much of a problem. We just un-tucked the sides and kicked out our feet, or allowed some air in for ventilation to regulate our temperatures. We loved that we could each get in and out of our sides easily, and ventilate our sides individually to stay comfortable whatever the temperature.

On cold nights the twin quilt was awesome, we were able to huddle up and share body heat to stay nice and warm. The quilt has a strap on the bottom to keep it snug around us, but we never used it (the strap is detachable). The quilt also has the ability to cinch tight around our necks, but we also did not use this feature. I think the neck cinch cords would have been more necessary to keep out any drafts in temperatures below freezing.

I think we could have easily gotten away with a 30F quilt on the Te Araroa, combined with our jackets. If we were ever to do the AT, PCT, or CDT again we would definitely take a 20F or warmer since those trails were colder.

Outdoor Gear Lab's Twin Quilt Review
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"We had our 20 degree quilt from you out in the Bolkar Mountains last week. We awoke one morning to frozen water bottles and ice on the inside and outside or the Hexamid Twin but we'd slept warm and toasty without noticing how cold it was, even though my wife sleeps very cold. I love the feel of the fabric. An awesome quilt."

"My girlfriend and I have been sleeping under one of your twin quilts and it has exceeded expectations. There is a good amount of wiggle room, it's so light you forget you're carrying it, and we have been plenty warm in thirty degree weather." -Owen H.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Just wanted to thank you for prompt delivery of our quilt. Having used it, we are amazed at how warm it is. This is by far the most lightest and comfortable outdoor sleeping system both my wife and I have experienced. We are considering ordering more sleeping bags for our children!" -Nick M.

"We completed our 165+ mile thru-hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail in 11 days 11 hours. Our son was 1 year and 22 days old when we completed, making him the youngest person ever to transit the trail. We used your 10° twin quilt, and it kept all three of us warm and cozy. We actually should have gone with the 20°, but the extra warmth will come in handy one day I'm sure. Thank you for making such revolutionary products, and doing it like a boss." -Matt K.

"My wife and I used the 20 Degree Twin Quilt as part of our cold-weather gear and it has been great! We've been careful to keep it dry and it has gotten us through some really cold, wet, snowy, windy nights on our AT thru-hike. Plenty of room, lightest on the market, and packs down small. Beautiful." -John K.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey Joe and company, I don't think I have taken the time to tell you how much we love your products, especially the twin quilt. We used your 10° quilt on our 12 day thru-hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail with our 12 month old son. He became the youngest person to "transit" the trail, and we wouldn't have been able to do it without this quilt. We all slept underneath it with plenty of room to spare. It was so warm we found ourselves kicking our feet out and sleeping with minimal clothing. We never even had to button the top of the quilt. I have never had the pleasure of using such finely made equipment, and it is more reasonably priced than the products available at the brick and mortar stores." -Onespeed
